Getting The Best From Your Marble

By saul123 On May 17, 2018 No Comments

Marble is a natural stone that can be used throughout your home, for flooring, wall tiling, and work tops. However with time and use marble loses its initial shiny new look. Here are some tips that will ensure that your marble flooring remains sparkling and bright.

Do not let spills become stains – any liquid, be it a  soft drink or alcoholic beverage spillage can leave a permanent stain on your marble flooring and work tops.  Since acidic liquids can permeate the surface of the marble easily, it is therefore necessary to wipe off any such liquid immediately with warm water and a soft cloth.

Marble flooring although it is strong, is susceptible to even minor scratches and chipping. Moving furniture it is always advisable to lift rather than drag to prevent scratches and we always recommend when walking around in your home you wear slippers. Even the smallest pieces of grit on your outdoor shoes can create deep scratches in your marble flooring.

Maintain your marble, by regular vacuuming and mopping with a neutral stone cleaner. In bathrooms be very careful with your toilet cleaners etc as they will etch the marble surface and leave unsightly marks. Have the surfaces regularly maintained by a professional. We will deep clean your marble, re-seal it and restore its natural shine. Keeping it looking beautiful for years.

The best way to keep your marble looking great is to join our maintenance programme, you pay an agreed monthly amount and we visit once, or twice a year (depending on your usage and needs) and keep you floor looking spectacular. Give us a call if you would like to know more on 07738 022813. We work hard to ensure that you are equipped to deal with daily cleaning and routine maintenance. This will allow your marble tiled floor to look its best, all of the time!

What Colour Floor?

By saul123 On April 12, 2018 No Comments

We worked to complete this brick floor restoration project in Bishops Stortford this week. It is incredible to think that sometimes when you start a job you really have no idea what colour the floor is going to be. That is until you actually get started.

This week’s job was one of those occasions. But so worth it, what a beautiful floor and one very happy customer!

You may be asking how it is possible to not know what colour your stone tiles are. It may seem impossible to imagine that it is even possible. However, if you consider that this process can happen over months and months and even years and years. Some of our clients are not particularly aware of our stone cleaning services. They have just noticed a deterioration of their stone floor.

Gradually and steadily their stone flooring gets layered with dirt and grime through daily use. When we start to strip back the dirt, our clients are often overwhelmed by the process. They can see their original tiles, their colouration and remember what they once looked like.

This brick floor was particularly dirty. The brick tiles looked as though they had a very dark appearance. Once the dirt was lifted with our stone cleaning machinery, light and brighter tiles were revealed. You really would not believe the results that can be achieved with professional stone restoration.

The services that we offer are cost-effective and we always leave you with information and advice on how to maintain your newly clean stone floor. This provides value for money and we take great pride in building ongoing relationships with our clients. We want to become their go-to Company for stone care needs. We have maintenance programmes and cleaning services available and tailored to individual clients. Call today on 07738 022813 to request more information.

Making Sure I keep Up To Date!

By saul123 On February 19, 2018 No Comments

I always feel it is absolutely essential to keep up to date with stone floor cleaning training. When it comes to stone cleaning and restoration, companies are always bringing out new and innovative ways to get the best results possible.

Therefore, I spent Thursday and Friday last week learning the latest and best techniques, to get the best results when I’m working on people’s floors. The video shows some of the work we were doing and gives you an idea of the processes required depending on your flooring.

We looked at advanced marble polishing techniques and cement polishing among other things.

These two elements of stone restoration can be particularly challenging. Different stone types provide varying intricacies and it is therefore important that you are well stocked with well-rounded knowledge. Ongoing training and experience provide this opportunity and everything we learn, we are able to bring new and innovative processes and ideas to our work.

Other elements of our trade that we are always investing in are the new product formulations and cleaning machinery. To complete any stone restoration project successfully it is vital that all of these elements are considered and used. Knowledge of the trade, correct machinery and ideal products are the formula to success.

Restore or Replace?

By saul123 On January 17, 2018 No Comments

Whilst restoring a limestone kitchen floor for a client last week she tentatively mentioned she also had a boot room! On further investigation it would seem that living in the country owning two large dogs and being a horse rider the boot room was the family route into and out of the house!

The door was kept firmly closed so that no one would see the very dirty floor. It turns out I hadn’t been asked to clean it because it was felt to be ‘beyond’ it and the decision to replace it with new flooring had been made.

Cleaning Limestone:

After seeing the results I had achieved with the rest of the limestone flooring my opinion was sought regarding the boot room. I had no doubt I could achieve a good result saving my client  money as well as the upheaval of having a new floor fitted and moving fitted units etc.

As you can see from the picture, the floor came up remarkably well considering the wear and tear it receives! And we have added it to our 6 monthly maintenance clean visits to keep it looking its best.

Cleaning Maintenance Visits:

We will visit every 6 months and give the floor a really thorough cleaning and reseal to help prevent stains and dirt getting into the limestone. However, it is equally important that it is mopped regularly with a good natural stone floor cleaner. We recommend our specialised stone cleaner for your regular cleaning, which leaves no residue and won’t damage the seal. It is available from us at £12 for a litre bottle.

Having the correct stone cleaning products to hand makes the job easy and straight forward. If you are faced with a challenging routine or are unsure of what products to use it is unlikely that you will stick to the routine. Being confident with your product choice means that you are able to complete the task confidently. Call Cornwell Services today on 07738 022813.

Travertine Tile Cleaning Secrets

By saul123 On May 26, 2017 No Comments

Travertine tiles are an excellent alternative as a natural stone floor. Why is this? The colouration suits may home and business environments and they, if cared for correctly, are durable and versatile.

To keep travertine floor tiles looking great, information about their care is really important. An uncared for tiled floor will start to look dull and lifeless quickly. No one wants this after the expensive of installation.

Travertine Tiles HarlowGeneral cleaning techniques can be used as with many other stone types. The removal of loose dirt and grime will mean that the floor area will be free from debris. Small and larger particles can deteriorate the surface of the floor. Small particles act like sandpaper against the tile’s surface and the larger particles can easily scratch or damage the tile.

This removal should be completed daily if possible to ensure that there is no build up. This can be done with a hover or dry mop to remove all dirt. A chemical-free dust mop or soft towel can also be used for this process. A top tip when using a hover on a tiled floor is to make sure that it is suited to use on stone floors. Your manual will offer information and advice on this matter.

If you are looking to complete a more thorough clean then a mixture of a pH neutral stone cleaner and warm water mix is appropriate for travertine tiles. It is important that the cleaning mixture is formed as per the instructions on the product so that the dilution is correct.

Cleaning Top Tips:

Once the entire floor has been cleaned then it is important to fully rinse the floor with a wet mop. Three tips here to ensure success are:

  • to make sure that no water is left on the tiles for any amount of time
  • ensure that too much water isn’t used
  • make sure there is no product residue left on the tiles when the process has been completed

Why is this important? It means that you will be less likely to have unwanted streaks or that the floor will re-soil quicker due to the fact that dirt will be attracted to the residue markings.

Has your travertine floor been etched? Are there marks that cannot be removed with the above methods? Do you feel that your floor has looked better and your cleaning efforts are not working? Call Cornwell Services; we offer full stone floor cleaning and restoration services for Hertfordshire and the surrounding areas. Call to enquire today on 07738022813.

  • Make sure that you use a cleaning product that has been formulated purely for cleaning marble. Ensure that it is a sealer-friendly product so that the surface seal is not damaged during routine cleaning.

Ceramic Tile Cleaning Tips Hertfordshire

By saul123 On August 22, 2016 No Comments

Using stone tiles within a home has now become so popular. Once a flooring alternative that was seen to only be afforded by the rich is now an application that is obtainable by anyone.

How to clean ceramic floor tiles HertfordshireSourcing and production has meant that different grades of products are available and so can be afforded by a huge majority. It is an obvious statement to make, however, it is important that you are equipped with as much detail as possibly when caring for your tiled floor.

Stone floors are an investment for your property as return is offered through increased value. This, therefore justifies why it is so important to be knowledgeable about how best to clean this floor type. So let’s start with the basics:

Ceramic tiles are a versatile tile choice as they are easy to maintain, they are durable and there is great variation I both colour and tile type. You can buy these tiles in both glazed and unglazed variations.

Glazed Ceramic Tiles

This surface glaze offers a polished look that provides resistance against wear and tear and liquid spillages. The glazed finish allows ease of maintenance from a non-absorbent material.

A top tip is to ensure that you seek professional assistance when requiring a deep clean as the grout lines are porous and will therefore be absorbent.

Unglazed Ceramic Tiles

An unglazed tile will inevitably provide a more rustic appearance. This uniqueness means that it can be well-suited to both modern, fashionable properties as well as more traditional homes.

A top tip is to make sure that the correct cleaning products are used. Having a more natural finish means that it is incredibly important to use product formulations that will not deteriorate the tile surface.

As it is the surface glaze that offers liquid repellence, dirt and water can absorb into the tiles and damage them. Have you got a ceramic floor that requires deep cleaning? Call us today; we are tile cleaning experts with a wealth of experience. Our helpful staff are available on 07738022813.

This process begins with rotary cleaning machinery. We have heavily invested in the best available machinery to create an impressive deep clean.
